Technology has certainly moved on since the 2000’s when I was treading the boards at events up and down the country as the weird and whacky ChilliMan from Chorley!

I remember one particular event. I was at a food festival near the #Barbican. A customer or a chef was desperately trying to get a response from me about an online order.

I had to leave my stand unattended at the event. Scurry a nervous run/walk to a hotel and use their cybercafé to do my digital stuff!

It sounds archaic, but an online shop and vlogging on a YouTube channel back then was cutting edge!

I had to shoot the video on a Camcorder Tape > Upload to PC > Edit > Produce > Upload to YouTube over rudimentary broadband at maybe 1-2mbps on a super-slow PC, which was probably the fastest around at the time. Production took hours and HOURS!

The online shop was a nightmare and the courier was fun too!

If I had owned a handheld communication device that controlled my online business, payments and logistics that could shoot, edit and upload YouTube videos—my life would have been a breeze! We are so fortunate to have our current technology.
Good times though. Oh! I’ve been reminiscing about the Glory Days of Chillies!

Photos and video were not as easy back then either. I found some images of those halcyon days and banged up 15 short articles on the website for those events—have a look if you like!

🚑 Event Survival Kit❓Do you have one? What’s in it?
I spent some time creating a large poster for my latest event—my first event since COVID.

I sat down and thought: what did I learn from my days as the ChilliMan, performing at events up and down the country?

✅ The answer = don’t leave the poster in the car overnight—the paper gets damp and cockles!

❓Then I thought: what else do I need to take?

✅ Answer = Obviously, food and drink to eat on the stand or stall—as a one-man-band it can be hard to get cover for meals and necessities.

❓But I also thought: what went wrong? I have a great memory for previous disasters!

✅ Answer = supplies and tools to fix things, like double-sided sticky tape, multitools, string, hooks and pegs.

That’s just a few of the things in my Event Survival Kit…
