RiK Alker Children’s Author, former UCLan lecturer and 999 emergency ambulanceman is most famous for his role as The ChilliMan.
Former UCLan economics and business lecturer, Richard Alker, a.k.a. RiK Alker began growing Chillies as a hobby 25 years ago.
His hobby turned into a business in the 2000s and cultivated hundreds of varieties of chilli at sites near Chorley and Blackpool.
He created his alter ego, the colourful ChilliMan as a local food evangelist and appeared in the press, TV and radio on programmes such as:

From ChilliMan Stardom to 999 Ambulances
RiK reluctantly shelved the amazing ChilliMan during the recession when he accepted the challenge to serve the country on the 999 emergency ambulances.
Injuries helping someone ended his 999 career. RiK could not run and play with his kids, but the imaginary world released him from his broken body and together, they explored as he wrote the book.
